GoToJobBoard, an NHS non-medical job board based in Manchester, will be hosting it’s third annual Unsung Hero Awards in February and nominations are now open to the public.

The Unsung Hero awards are aimed at recognising the dedication of the NHS’s non-medical staff members – staff that are often overlooked when it comes to receiving recognition for their work within the NHS. GoToJobBoard wants to encourage all friends, family members, patients and colleagues to nominate staff who they believe go above and beyond in regards to patient care and in helping out their colleagues.

Last year’s winners

Last year, GoToJobBoard awarded three non-medical NHS staff with the Unsung Hero title and trophy. Two of these winners are now ambassadors of the awards:

Enid Dunn, the mother of Coronation Street star Antony Cotton, began volunteering at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust and was nominated for helping women recovering from breast surgery. Watch her amazing story in GoToJobBoard’s Ambassadors’ Video.

James Long, Facilities and Patients Manager at St Pancras Hospital, won the award for his work improving the day-to-day lives of patients with serious illnesses. He also told his story on GoToJobBoard’s Ambassadors’ Page.

GoToJobBoard’s Mark Cherry, who is spearheading Unsung Hero Awards, said:

“Without them [non-medical NHS staff] there would be no National Health Service, so it is important to recognise and reward their hard work on a national scale, and that is what the awards are all about.”

Awards ceremony

The awards will conclude with a glamorous ceremony held at Manchester Place Hotel on the 3rd February 2017. The event is set to be a fabulous celebration of the hard work completed by all NHS non-medical staff members, with entertainment, guest speakers and the much-anticipated winners announcement.

Non-medical staff

Non-medical staff make up 49% of the NHS’s workforce, in roles that include healthcare assistants, HR managers, porters, cleaners and IT consultants. GoToJobBoard is trying to raise awareness of how important these often overlooked jobs are, and tell the often-unheard stories from the staff members who work in these roles.

Non-medical NHS sectors can include: Admin & Clerical, Senior Management, Medical Secretaries, Legal Services, Library Services, Clinical Coding, Finance, IT, Project Management, HR, PR & Communications, Healthcare Assistant, Support Worker, Sales, Procurement, Estates, Hotel Services, Catering, Drivers, Stores and Security.

Nominating your Unsung Hero

GoToJobBoard would like individuals, NHS Trusts, and Manchester businesses to spread the word so that people know to nominate their Unsung Hero. There are two different ways of nominating:

1. Filling out GoToJobBoard’s online form

2. Sending your nomination to and telling GoToJobBoard why they should be one of the winners of our Unsung Hero Award.

All nominations will be considered, and there is no job too small. So, nominate your hard working, dedicated Unsung Hero today.
