Broadcasting legend Gordon Burns will be the star host of The Krypton Challenge, a new and unique fundraising event raising money for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity.

The charity ball will take place on Saturday 23rd September at The Revolution Manchester Gallery at the Museum of Science and Industry and will bring a unique twist to the traditional gala dinner. Based on the immensely popular and fondly remembered game show the Krypton Factor, the event will combine quiz, puzzle, and physical challenges testing contestant’s stamina and mental attributes.

Throughout the evening, nine teams made up of five team members will go head-to-head in rounds and activities hosted by Gordon that will test mental agility, observation, physical ability and general knowledge. Contestants will also face the original intelligence round from the Krypton Factor television show.

Commenting on the event, Gordon said:

“It’s an absolute pleasure to be hosting such a special and unique fundraising event in support of Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. The Krypton Challenge is a gala dinner with a difference and I’m looking forward to seeing the team members skills being put to the test live in front of an audience! It’s going to be a great night, full of fun and, most importantly, it will help to raise lots of money to make a difference to poorly children in hospital, so I’m really proud to be part of that.”

Manchester-based Cloud Service Provider ANS are the event’s headline sponsor. The company is passionate about engaging their staff in their varied CSR programme, which includes fundraising, environmental initiatives and voluntary work as well as sponsorship.

Long-time supporter of the hospital Scott Fletcher, Founder of ANS, said:

“Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital provides an invaluable service to so many families across the North West. I am proud to have been able to support them over the years and I’m delighted to be a part of this exciting new Krypton Challenge event for Manchester. We already have our team in place who will be representing ANS on the night and they’re keen to start the challenges, show off their skills and hopefully they won’t get too competitive! We are looking forward to what promises to be an amazing night for such a fantastic cause.”

All funds raised at the Krypton Challenge will help to fund an important project to support young patients who require heart scans at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

The Hospital’s Paediatric Cardiology out-patient department treats up to 200 young patients every week for the diagnosis and management of heart disease. The money will help purchase a brand new, state-of-the-art echo machine. This cutting edge ultra-sound scan will allow clinicians to obtain quicker and more accurate images, helping to reduce the length of time each scan takes, making the experience far less distressing for our young patients.

Maurice Watkins CBE, Chairman of CMFT’s Charitable Fundraising Board adds:

“We’re delighted to be launching this brand new fundraising event and are thrilled to have Gordon hosting the evening’s activities.  We thought the interactive gala would present a new and unique fundraising concept, which people would be passionate and excited about being a part of.

“Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital does incredible work for poorly children across the North West and beyond, but needs our support in providing the best possible service and care. That’s why fundraising events like this are so important in raising money for life-saving projects. I encourage others to get involved, whether that be through forming a team or attending on the night so that together, we can make a real and lasting difference to patients at the hospital”.

Enter a team of five to take on the Krypton Challenge and a table for ten people will be included in your package for a cost of £5,000. There is also the opportunity to attend the event as a guest. Tables are priced at £1,500 + Vat for a table of ten.
