We interviewed Charlie Lamb from Network Marketing Recruitment and she gave us some expert advice on what is needed to be a top recruiter, and how to survive in the industry.

What’s your name, position and where do you work?

My name is Charlie, I am an agency recruitment consultant at Network Marketing.

Describe your business in one sentence.

We are digital marketing and creative recruitment experts working across the North West, Yorkshire and London.

What separates you from the competition?

We are predominantly ex-marketers ourselves so we understand the industry in and out. We are also part of Pertemps, a massive international recruitment company, and ourselves – Network Marketing – we’ve been around for over 20 years so we’ve built ourselves a really good reputation.

What have been the highlights of your company so far?

Winning the top three consultant in the whole of Pertemps which I was particularly proud of but also every single time we get somebody a job, it’s a real career highlight, you can change people’s careers day to day.

What qualities are needed to succeed in your industry?

We need to be incredibly resilient; we take a lot of knocks in this industry. It’s important to kind of have that sales aspect and be a really good relationship builder as well.

What is the main benefit of working in Manchester?

Manchester is a great city full of lovely people and people are always willing to help, from CEOs right down to executives. If you ever need anybody they’re always on hand to offer advice.

Where are your favourite places to eat and drink in Manchester?

Australasia and the Living Ventures Company are firm favourites, I love Japanese food, the service is fantastic and it’s a beautiful venue as well. In terms of drinking, I can most often be found in the Northern Quarter Cottonopolis and Ply almost every Friday and Saturday

Who are some local companies you would recommend?

Network Marketing as a recruitment company are always on hand to offer help. Even if its just help writing your CV, if you need some interview advice, we just want to see what’s going on in the market, candidates and clients are always welcome to give us a call.

Do you have any advice for new businesses in Manchester?

It’s so important to have a plan as a new company. Seek legal advice from the get-go so you know exactly where you’re going and where you stand from a legal standpoint. And make sure you ask advice from people in the industry.

Who are some local companies you would recommend?

I’d always recommend Love Creative, they are a fantastic branding agency based in the Northern Quarter. Even though they are based in Manchester, they work internationally with amazing clients, and they always bring out award-winning work.

Living Ventures founded by Tim Bacon has gone from success to success, founded in Manchester, he’s now national and probably will be international soon as well.
