“Music is about to get interesting again” with highly anticipated release of Liverpool band’s debut single
Edge Hill University’s The Label Recordings is proud to announce the highly anticipated release of ‘Psycho Disco Face’, the debut single from Liverpool band Oranj Son. The song is now available for download at iTunes and can be viewed on YouTube.
Already one of the most talked about bands to emerge from the North West in 2015, Oranj Son’s debut has been featured by numerous popular and industry publications including Daily Dose, Creative Control, TunAtheDay, and being named the Liverpool Echo’s Buzz Band of the Week.
The Psych Punk band with its low-fi East Coast sound is comprised of Kieran Linford (guitar, vocals), Lew Yii (percussion), Brad Welch (bass), and Matt Linford (keys, guitar).
“Music is about to get interesting again,” was lead vocalist Kieran Linford’s statement when discussing the single.
The single’s producer, Carl Hunter from Edge Hill University’s Department of Media, said that working on Oranj Son’s debut was a wonderful and creative experience.
“Oranj Son have an incredibly unique style compared to other bands coming out of the North West, and the UK more broadly.
“The Univirsity’s Label Recordings has seen great success with Hooton Tennis Club recently signing a major recording deal. I think Oranj Son have got the same level of talent and drive to achieve great things,” he said.
A truly grass-roots initiative, each and every aspect of the single, its accompanying film clip, and promotion has had some element of Edge Hill University student involvement. The giant heads used in the video were designed and produced by several students studying Theatre Design, the film clip was shot and edited by Film and Television Production students, and the sleeve for the single was produced by Advertising students.
Student involvement is central to The Label Recordings, the only industry-focused University’s record label in the UK. The Label was recently recognised with a Highly Commended award in the Excellence and Innovation in the Arts category of the prestigious Times Higher Education awards 2015. One of its first signings, Hooton Tennis Club, have gone on to secure a record deal with Heavenly Recordings
