The Jackson Canter Group – one of the North West’s fastest growing law firms – has appointed Claire Smith as its chief marketing officer, demonstrating its commitment to becoming one of the region’s largest providers of legal services.

The appointment of Claire to the firm’s board follows the recent acquisition of Lees Solicitors, which saw the business double in size and increase its regional footprint as two of the North West’s leading firms united to deliver an enhanced service to individuals and businesses.

Claire joins The Jackson Canter Group from QualitySolicitors, one of the country’s most prominent legal brands. She is also a qualified solicitor having previously been a partner with Pannone LLP, allowing her to bring an expert skillset to the role. The appointment will see her strategically contribute to the firm’s continued growth in areas of business development and marketing.

Speaking of her appointment, Claire said: “The North West boasts one of the UK’s most impressive legal sectors and it’s a really exciting time for me to take on this role. The Jackson Canter Group approaches the provision of legal services in an innovative and refreshing way and I’ve no doubt that this method, along with the expertise of the team, will see the firm make a real mark on the industry. The group has a very clear set of values with making a difference through the practice of law at its core”

The group, which has offices across Merseyside and Manchester, provides services spanning a wide range of specialisms including immigration, actions against the police, employment, family law and clinical negligence. Moreover, one of The Jackson Canter Group’s subsidiaries, Broudie Jackson Canter, acted on behalf of 20 of the families involved in the Hillsborough disaster, which saw the country’s longest ever jury proceedings come to a close with the inquest verdict last month.

Brian Cullen, CEO of The Jackson Canter Group, commented: “Claire joins the firm at a crucial time, when her expertise in how to develop and market the business successfully has never been more vital.

“The quicker we grow, the bigger difference we can make to society through the practice of law – a value which sits firmly at the heart of the group and will continue to remain at the forefront of our operation regardless of ambitious commercial objectives.”

Claire’s appointment follows a successful 2015 for Jackson Canter, which saw the acquisition of boutique firm Cope & Co, the opening of its first Manchester office, as well as a strong financial year with a 15 per cent increase in turnover and a 20 per cent increase in underlying profit. The group also launched the Jackson Canter Foundation, which supports four different charities across the North West.

Claire continued: “I was born and bred in Manchester, so being given the opportunity to help develop the firm’s presence in the city is a brilliant prospect. Thanks to the Northern Powerhouse movement, it’s gaining more and more recognition for its influence within the UK economy and there’s never been a better time to have a presence here.”
