Proving that you’re never too old to pursue your passions in life, four men from a care centre in Lytham St Annes still tee off their week with a regular visit to their favourite golf club.

With a combined age of more than 320 years old, John Woods, Ron Griffiths, Lawrence Atkinson and Eddie Foulkes, all residents at The Hamptons Care Centre off Heyhouses Lane in Lytham, meet daily in the home’s Gentleman’s Lounge to enjoy coffee, read their newspapers and discuss the day’s golf headlines and other sporting news.

Around once a week, they don their golfing sweaters and head out to Royal Lytham Golf Club for a leisurely lunch and to watch some of the Club’s other members in action on the green.

Eddie Foulkes commented: “I’ve been passionate about golf since my early 20s when I would play regularly every weekend with a handicap of 10.  It’s wonderful to have discovered great friends with the same passion for golf here at The Hamptons and we enjoy fantastic conversation and daily debate about the sport every morning in the home and also regularly over lunch at the Club.”

Lawrence Atkinson added: “Physically we’re now unable to play, but we love the game just as much as we did, so our daily chat and visits to the Club are just the tonic.  I look forward to meeting the boys every morning and our friends at the Club who make us feel fully involved in the social calendar and regular competitive games.”

New Care’s Suzanne Scholz, Home Manager at The Hamptons, added: “It’s extremely important to us to focus on each of our residents as individuals and to help them continue with their passions and interests.  John, Ron, Lawrence and Eddie, are great examples of former sports enthusiasts who have formed a great friendship and found a new lease of life channelling their shared interest in golf.

“John used to be the Captain of Royal Lytham Golf Club but they are all regulars now and are always warmly welcomed by the other members and staff team there.”

Designed, built and operated by New Care, one of the UK’s fastest growing development-led care home operators, The Hamptons is a ‘new generation’ care facility that features 76 fully furnished bedrooms, all with private en suite wet rooms, a range of stylish and elegant communal lounges and fine dining rooms, a nail bar, hair salon and beautifully landscaped gardens and outdoor areas.
